With Lil' Jon and Jesus for You, Who Dare Be Against You??

Today is the day that we start shooting up! As you know, I have not been looking forward to the whole process, and although Monday's lesson from nurse Jamie was helpful, it's still pretty daunting for an IVF newbie like myself. I became a little more at ease once I watched these awesome VIDEOS online that are provided by Freedom Fertility Pharmacy, and luckily today and tomorrow we are only responsible for injecting Lupron. This is the medication that will prevent ovulation from occurring once we begin the other stimulation meds. By Friday we'll be doing 5 injections each day (2 Lupron, 2 Gonal-F & 1 Menopur). It's a little overwhelming of course, but I'm happy to say that our first Lupron injection this morning went off without a hitch! I did the prep and hubby shot me up; Teamwork at it's finest! They should really consider including "in infertility and in health" to the marriage vows. People really deserve a better warning for this nonsense!

Leave it to hubby to lighten the mood and calm my fears.
Last night he randomly asks me if I'm ready for the morning and starts playing the LMFAO & Lil' Jon song "SHOTS" really loud in the kitchen. If you don't remember this song from Spring Break 2009, let me refresh your memory...

I especially like the part where they start calling out the individual shots like "Jager Bomb! Lemondrop! Jello Shots!" My dear friend, Kim, from my online support group offered a fabulous suggestion. We should make our own video and we can call out our own shots like, "Follistim! Ovidrel! Gonal- F!"  It would be a HUGE hit and would make us millions for infertility treatments. IVF's all around! All we need is a name for our group now! I mean, you just aren't cool unless you're taking shots right?! As Lil' Jon says, "If you aint takin shots get the #@*% out the club." So, from now on we're just pretending like this is one big ole partay and we're in da club.

I went to bed with that song stuck in my head last night and woke up giggling about it too. I thought it only proper that I take a few minutes out while lying in bed to clear my head of bikini models in rap videos and refocus. I said a prayer that Jesus would be with us as we embark on this new journey today, that the medications would help my body the way they are supposed to, that I would have the strength to handle them like a champ, and that in the end an amazing miracle would come of all of this. Hey, if Lil' Jon and Jesus are for you, who dare be against you??...or something like that.

  1. Bahaha! Someone really should make that video for us IFers. Hilarious. Good luck with the remainder of your shots! I hope everything goes smoothly. Be sure to inject the Menopur slowly- that one can burn going in!

  2. This cracks me up. I think a 'shots' video is genius. If nothing else, fellow shot-takers around the world would laugh about it, and we all need a good laugh now and then!

  4. Ha ha, yes... sadly, "infertility and in health" should totally be added to marriage vows!

  5. Omg that is SUCH a great idea! I would love to see an infertility training video that's funny, for once... not sure how you could make "body shots" sexy, though, especially with all the bruising that can happen! But you could definitely have a lot of booty-shaking for the progesterone shots. :)

  6. I literally just lol'd as I thought about the IVF shot video. Someone has to take that one on!!! Hilarious!!!

As for 5 injections a day, did your nurse say anything about mixing the medication together so that you only have to do one or two injections? Lupron wasn't part of my protocol, but I was able to mix my Menopur and Gonal F together in one vial so that I could draw it up all together and only had to administer one shot. Way better! It's worth a "shot" (he he...punny) asking if they didn't mention it to you. Once I added in Cetrotide though, I had to do 2 shots, but that's the most I ever had at once. Hope that helps!

Glad to hear the first injection in behind you and wasn't too bad. And yes, with Lil' John and Jesus with you...this has to work!!!

    Hugs,
    Kara

    1. Thanks Kara! My Gonal-F is in a preloaded pen, so no way I can mix the Menopur in with it. I did ask about mixing the Lupron together in the same needle with the Menopur and was told NO, not allowed to do that. So, when the stims start, I'll have 3 in the morning (Lupron, Gonal-F, Menopur) and 2 at night (Lupron, Gonal-F). Wish there was a way to reduce it down, but doesn't seem to be a way. You are the second person to suggest that though. I guess if I had the Gonal-F vials it would be doable, but on the other hand I like having that one in a preloaded pen too...pretty handy.

    2. Emily, my Gonal F was the pre-loaded pen as well. All I did, was once I clicked it to the right dosage, I would just squirt it out (with needle on of course) into the menopur vial I had already mixed. That way, the Gonal F and Menopur were in one vial together. I would then draw them up together with the long needle, and then switch to the short needle to inject. Does that make sense? My nurse showed me how to do this in order to have one shot as opposed to 2. Maybe you could do the same and cut your shots in half?!

  7. I'm so glad your first Lupron shot went well and that you are able to find some humor in all this. That is a ton of shots! That's too funny about the Lil John song. When I got vaccinated about a year and a half ago, my arm got all swollen, and when DH asked me what happened to it, I sang, "Shots shots shots shots shots shots!!!!" He thought I was being totally corny, but whatever. I would love to see you and Kim make an infertility remix!

  8. OMG, YES!! I'd love an IVF shots video, lol!! I am so glad the Lupron shot went well and even though you do need to do a bunch of them soon, it will be okay and it's so going to be worth it when your BFP comes! *hugs* Hang in there!! This is your BFP ride girl!

  11. Hilarious! This post made my day. That video wouldn't be such a bad idea. I'm glad your first shot is out of the way. I have to ask did you look away while he was doing it? Cause I so do that...thinking it wont hurt if I don't see. You are on the road to your BFP I know it! GL! =)

    1. Oh yes, I am definitely looking away. That is what bothers me most about needles (outside of the sting) is seeing that thing go in. I am basically prepping the meds, and then I hand it to him and look away while he stabs me.

  12. This post killed me. Hilarious and just what I needed. I can just imagine you dancing around rapping while pausing briefly to "shoot up". :)

  14. You are so funny, you're post seriously had me cracking up :)

You should definitely check out the wineries around Fredricksburg, they are fantastic! Based on your recommendation (from your blog awhile back), we were actually going to go to Lake Travis and try the zip lining thing but we couldn't find any available hotel rooms. I guess spring break + sxsw = a VERY busy Austin!

I hope that everything is continuing to go smoothly!
